The Austrian Library is found on the premises of the Study Library on the 1st floor of the Regional Research Library in Liberec, where it has been open since 23rd May 1992.
It is one of 61 similar libraries mainly found in the countries of Central, Eastern and South Eastern Europe. Indeed there are seven such libraries in the Czech Republic. These libraries are set up based on cooperation between the Austrian Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which provides publications at its own expense, and local institutions (libraries or universities). The aim of such libraries is to offer Austrian literature and information about Austria to the public. The overwhelming majority of the books are written in German.
