Is my Library Card valid in all departments?
Yes, you may visit all departments in the Library and at our branches.
Do I have to pay to borrow books?
The only charges you pay are for registering (on an annual basis) and for the issue of your Library Card. Book loans are completely free.
Who else can return my books?
Anybody can return your books. Library Cards are not needed when returning books.
Do I have to return my books to the same department I borrowed them from?
No, you don’t. You can return your books at any Library department. In addition, out of office hours you can return books at the Information Desk in the foyer. And when the Library is closed, you can return books using the Bookbox in form of the Library.
Can anyone else use my Library Card?
No, they can’t. Library Cards are non-transferable.
How many books can I borrow?
30 books, 25 magazines/periodicals, 5 bound periodicals, 10 music scores, 10 audio recordings, 5 maps, 2 DVDs. In the Children’s Library readers may borrow 10 books, 5 magazines and 2 audio recordings.
Can I visit the Library without my Library Card?
Yes, you can. The Library is open to the public. Visitors can make use of almost all services the Library offers, including studying books and reference materials in the Library, use the Internet, visit exhibitions amd other cultural and educational events, etc. You only need your Library Card to borrow books.
What should I do if I can’t access my Reader Account?
When registering, make sure you enter the correct Library Card Number and password. Library Card Numbers are case sensitive, and you must enter correctly all spaces and hyphens. If, however, you repeatedly enter an incorrect Number or Password the system will block you Account for a period of 15 minutes for security reasons. In the event that you are unable to access your Account, please contact the Library on 482 412 111, or send us an e-mail.
How can I extend my loans?
Book loans can be extended on-line through your Reader’s Account, or by telephone, e-mail, or in person at the Library. You may only apply to extend book loans a maximum of seven days before their due date.
How do I stop fines increasing?
The only way to stop your fines increasing is to return the books to the Library. If you applied to have the loan extended after the books’ due date, the fine will stop increasing, but will have to be paid. Leave your telephone number and/or email address at the Information Desk and we will send you reminder when your books should be returned.
What should I do if I lose my Library Card?
If your Library Card is lost or stolen, inform the Library as soon as possible. We will block your Card to prevent its misuse. Unless you use another card, e.g. OPUS, ISIC or other approved card), you will be issued (at a small charge) with a new Library Card at the Information Desk.
Can I reserve a book if it is currently on loan?
Yes, you can. Books may be reserved using the electronic catalogue or by asking a member of staff. Reserving a book costs CZK7 and you will be informed when the book has been returned to the Library.
Can I cancel a reservation?
You can cancel you book reservation through your Reader’s Account or by asking a member of staff at a book loan desk, or at the Information Desk.
Can I request books from other Libraries?
Yes, you can. We can request books for you, which are not in our stock, from other libraries (both here and abroad) using the Interlibrary Loans (ILL) service. Go to the Study Library on the 1st Floor for more information.
How much does parking cost?
You may park your car in the underground car park below the Library. For the first hour it costs CZK6; further hours cost CZK25. The car park is operated Liberec Technical Services (not the Library) and drivers with any complaints should either telephone 482 410 111 or email: email@example.com
